Rory Butcher and the Celtic Speed team had a perfect weekend in Croft with back-to-back wins at the North Yorkshire circuit.

 

The Scottish driver scored an impressive double victory in rounds nine and ten of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, taking the flag in two thrilling races that involved many battles.

 

In round nine, Butcher didn’t get the best of starts from pole but fended off Gelzinis and Meadows into the opening lap. Meadows got into trouble on lap two when he clipped the tyre markers, ripping the front splitter off the car, and behind him Lloyd had a big moment on the grass avoiding the carnage.

 

Geddie, Tordoff and Barker joined the fight but Meadows was soon forced to retire.

 

Glory went to Butcher, and the young Scot said afterwards: “It can’t get much better than a lights-to-flag win.

 

“I wasn’t going to let this one slip and I’m just coming to terms with it.”

 

Gelzinis stayed out of trouble to bring home some points and Tordoff finished third from sixth on the grid. “I had to work for that: we made a big transformation in the car from qualifying,” he said.

 

The battles in Pro-Am 1 and Pro-Am 2 were just as close, with Al Harthy and Goff taking the victories.

 

Round ten also saw Butcher drive a mighty race, despite huge pressure from Meadows. To round things off, Al Harthy and Goff also picked up double victories in their respective classes.

 

Meadows tried to get the better of Butcher from the start but made the mistake of leaving the Scot enough room to get by, and so he did!

“Michael was fair the whole way through,” said Butcher. “Once I got in front I could hold him off and it’s a great feeling to win both races. It doesn’t get any better and I’m within striking distance of the Championship contenders now.”

Butcher earned the Driver of the Weekend award and Celtic Speed was named Team of the Weekend.
